Franklin D Roosevelt Primary School pupil Keaton Booysen was recently selected to play for the Gauteng South U13 football team.
Booysen was extremely pleased with news of his selection. “I am very excited. I hope that being part of the team will give me the confidence to get into a good high school and build a good reputation as a sportsman,” he said.
Sports coach at the school in Roosevelt Park, Eland Mabokela was pleased with Booysen’s recent achievement. “I feel very proud of him. He is a dedicated sports player and his selection into the team is a brilliant achievement,” he said.
Mabokela pointed out that Booysen was playing for the North West Squad District. He explained that the selection process for the team is a thorough one. “The selection committee of the Gauteng South U13 football team usually informs us at which school trials are run. Of the 56 competing boys, the the committee choose their best 15 candidates. We then have all the district players combined so that the committee can make the final decision. Finally, only two teams remain consisting of 30 boys in both. Booysen was then chosen from the remaining teams,” he said.
