NORTHCLIFF – Northcliff High School pulls out all the stops with their latest major musical production of 'Legally Blonde'.

Northcliff High School recently started the run of their highly anticipated major musical production. The production centred around a musical version of the motion picture Legally Blonde.

The plot deals with a bright young woman who, dumped by her boyfriend because of his lofty political and marital ambitions, decides to follow him to college, where she dispels the stereotypical myth that blondes are dumb and outshines him with her academic achievements.

Participating pupils provided vibrant and witty performances, as the show made sure to leave audiences entertained from start to finish. Notable performances included Grade 9 lead Kayla Liebenberg (Elle Woods) who carried the show’s key dramatic moments with great ease and professionalism. While beautiful vocals of Grade 11 Erin Fynes-Clinton’s (Paulette) made musical numbers even more magical.

The production values were top notch as various set pieces made creative use of the musical’s wonderful and wacky moments. Live music was provided by an impressive 12-piece orchestra, which created an exciting and lively ambiance for the performers.

Creative director and producer Nick Jourdan was extremely pleased with the pupils’ efforts. “We are fortunate that the powers that be at Northcliff High School have seen it fit to invest a huge amount of resources into the annual musical production. Thereby, we can afford the pupils that partake in our productions a truly enriching experience and an idea of what it takes to be on stage in a show of the highest calibre,” he said.

Principal at Northcliff High School Walter Essex-Clark was extremely proud of this this year’s production. “The school is extremely proud of the cast and crew’s efforts in making this production a memorable experience”, he said.

The Gala performance premiered on 27 May and will be running up to 30 May. The production will then go on to tour to the Natal Playhouse from 1 to 5 June.
