Sicelo Xulu of City Power has been awarded the “prestigious” African Utility Executive of the Year award. He was awarded for introducing smart meters, solar geysers and ripple control.

The solar geyser imports are of inferior quality.

The accuracy of billing is supposed to have improved by introducing smart meters but it definitely has not.

Solar geysers have been around for 40 years (I have had one for that long) and ripple control has been used in Johannesburg for at least 50 years.

Unfortunately Africa has now stooped to the level of awarding someone for doing a very mediocre job.

Can this panel have any credibility with Brian Dames as one of the members?

In his 17 years at Eskom, and five years as CEO, the organisation totally collapsed, rates skyrocketed yet he was paid millions, including a massive severance bonus from taxpayer’s money.
