Art is an expression of the soul

BRAAMFONTEIN – A new cheaper form of artistry made available for artists.

An art gallery called Art on Paper (AOP)( www.galleryaop.com) situated on Stanley Street. Braamfontein, has given young artists and art lovers an opportunity to get affordable art. AOP is basically art on paper using different drawing techniques. “The whole aim is for the artist to be able to express themselves easily without having to worry about cost,” said co-owner and director of AOP William van Rensburg.

Van Rensburg had advice for young artists hoping to have their work exhibited:

• You should relate to what you have put on paper

• Explore other galleries, educate yourself

• Look at what kind of art is being advertised and why it is in the limelight

• Go to art fairs to learn new techniques and interact with different artists

• What do people like? What moves them?

He described art as not just being a decoration. “Proper art should ignite a deep feeling and passion in the viewer when they look at a piece.” According to him an artist’s collection should all link through a golden thread. A golden thread is when each piece of art connects to another.

Artists get the opportunity to exhibit their artwork at the gallery every 18 months, and a new exhibition is showcased every three weeks.

Currently on display is the Skimmeryk Exhibition by Rosemarie Marriott.
