Removal of trees alongside the Emmarentia Dam wall
EMMARENTIA – The Johannesburg Roads Agency has called for the removal of trees alongside the Emmarentia Dam wall.
Trees alongside the Emmarentia Dam wall is scheduled for removal before a larger construction process of the dam wall’s structural strengthening is set to take place. The removal of the trees has been scheduled for 18 and 19 June.
A stop-and-go traffic measure will be implemented at the dam wall while this removal process is set to take place alongside a section of Olifants Road.
It was discovered that the roots of the trees running alongside the Emmarentia Dam wall have become entangled with the wall itself. In order to strengthen the wall, the removal of the trees became a requirement.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency will be in charge of this operation. Once this has been done, the agency will continue with a larger operation of strengthening the existing Emmarentia Dam wall.
Ward 88 DA Councilor Pat Richards explained that the renovation and strengthening of the Emmarentia Dam wall has been a long time coming. “I have personally been waiting a long time for this to realise. I am very pleased that the dam wall will be renovated and strengthened,” she said.
Richards continued to point out that the strengthening of the dam wall will a five to six month development process, which will require the closure of the road during that period. “Unfortunately, while the larger construction process is underway, the dam wall will be closed off. We urge residents to seek alternative routes during this time period, she concluded.
