Fairlanders represent South Africa
FAIRLAND – Scouts visit Japan and have a great time.
Young scouts represented South Africa in the 23rd 2015 Scouting Jamboree in Yamaguchi, Japan.
Michael Maggs and Julian Kotzé of Fairland, said they had an experience of a lifetime among 35 000 scouts from 150 different countries.
The remainder of a three weeks’ visit was spent in Yamaguchi, the southern part of Japan with temperatures averaging 35 degrees Celsius.
Maggs has risen in the ranks and has achieved the highest level of Springbok Scout.
He was the flag bearer for South Africa at the official opening of the International Jamboree event.
The contingent spent four days in Tokyo, where they also visited Disneyland.
The 2015 Jamboree theme is the Japanese term ‘WA’, meaning ‘A Spirit of Unity’.
The tour included Hiroshima where a Peace Memorial was held commemorating 70 years after the WWII atom bomb devastation.
Friendships were formed with scouts from other countries; scout badges were exchanged along with contact details.
