UPDATE: Detectives investigate Linden robbery
LINDEN – Armed robbers fire off a bullet, and traumatise Linden family.
Police detectives are investigating an armed house robbery that occurred in 10th Street, Linden, on 21 September. One bullet was fired into the ground during the robbery, and no one was injured. “I can confirm that a house robbery occurred last night in 10th Street,” said Linden Police Captain Alex Vermaak, adding that three suspects gained entry into the house at 8pm. “One shot was fired and it seems that the suspects gained entry by breaking a window at the back of the house.”

Capt Vermaak said that the shot was fired into the ground. Cellphones and iPads were taken, and no one was injured during the robbery. “This callous behaviour of crimnals is proof that robberies are not limited to a specific time. Linden detectives are investigating the matter and any information must be relayed as soon as possible.” A father and his young son appeared at the gate that night visibly shaken, and were too traumatised to speak to the media.
Pexco Security and Training Guarding Division manager Fareed Hoosen said that police and security companies patrol Linden frequently, but this does not help if residents do not secure the back of their properties. “No matter how many police cars, armed response cars or guards walk and drive our streets, or however much we change it, the rear parts of almost every home remains unsecured, and the criminals know it,” he lamented.

Capt Vermaak concluded that the window was not fitted with burglar proofing, and urged residents to arm their alarm systems and outside perimeter beams as early in the day as possible, because “an early warning system beats electric fencing by far”.
