GALLERY and VIDEOS: Wits student brandishes weapon at protesting students
BRAAMFONTEIN – Students come to blows with angry motorist and another brandishes an arrow at protesting students at Wits.
A student from Wits University brandished a weapon at fellow students protesting at the Enoch Sontonga gate on 14 October.
Students had blockaded all points of entry into the university citing that they were shutting down the university. The student flashed a sharp arrow as he pushed his way through the crowd and dared any other student to stop him from exiting the premises.
Wits SRC leaders calmed the gathered crowd down and continued with the protest, to let him pass. An angry motorist wearing a Springbok shirt then started attacking the protesters, throwing punches at them in an effort to exit the university. An altercation ensued between the angry crowd and other students. Security and SRC leaders managed to break up the fight and the angry motorist retreated back into the university.
