Law students to represent SA in moot court
NORTHCLIFF – The two hopefuls plan to represent South Africa at the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court.
Ryan Kruger and Samantha Walker, students of Wits School of Law, are set to represent South Africa in Switzerland on 8–12 December for an international moot court.
The students were placed second in Africa, having qualified out of five regional teams. They will now go against the top 25 in the world. The pair have high hopes in winning as they reckon they have each found the perfect partner.
“This would be a huge career leap for me,” said Samantha.
In moot court, attorneys present an argument and answer a set of questions posed by a panel of judges. This is not a trial, as there is no evidence or witnesses.
Kruger and Walker will be attending the seventh annual Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court in Geneva.
The pair are ready for the challenge and are eager to make their country proud.
“I never thought we would place in the top 25 of the world,” said Kruger.
“Preparing for moot court is not easy, one has to read up laws and facts and make sure they are ready for anything the judges might throw at them,” said Walker.
Kruger wishes to further his studies with a Master of Laws (LLM) in Matrimonial or Criminal Law.
Walker wants to further her studies with a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law.
