Workers find a dead newborn baby in Westdene
WESTDENE – Workers spot a baby's dead body floating in the dam.
The body of a newborn baby was found floating in the Westdene Dam on 26 October.
Road workers allegedly spotted a body along the dam.
According to Frikkie Botes of the Westdene Johannesburg Crow, Kingsway construction workers were working on a drainage system in the morning in Lewis Road when they discovered the body.
He said the baby’s navel was still attached.
Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruin confirmed that the baby was floating in the dam when the road workers found it.
“They alerted the police, but unfortunately we don’t have witnesses and no suspects,” said WO De Bruin, who added that an inquest docket has been openedand and police are investigating.
