GALLERY: Artists Heidi and David Hadaway exhibit at The Henry George Gallery

NORTHCLIFF – Husband and wife tackle the art scene with their sculpture and painting exhibition.

Husband and wife, David and Heidi Hadaway from Northcliff kicked off their art exhibition on 28 October at The Henry George Gallery in Parkhurst.

Heidi, a self-taught sculpturist for 12 years, known for her beautiful interpretation of the human body, showcased her lovely work at her very first solo exhibition. “I love the beauty of the human form and that is what inspires me,” said Heidi. She also said that she hopes to inspire people throughout the exhibition to appreciate the beauty of sculptures. “I do not aim to make any statements with my sculptures, I just do it for the beauty,” Heidi added.

Her process of her work starts with a steel armature, where she models clay on it and then takes it for casting into bronze.

Heidi has been commissioned to make custom-made sculptures throughout the country and also has public sculptures in prestigious schools. She has done a four-metre statue of King Moshoeshoe as well as a 4.5-metre statue of Dr Pixley Kaseme. “I work from life and my imagination,” she said.

Painter David Hadaway’s paintings are focused on landscapes and a lot of wildlife, especially bull elephants. The elephants inspired his book titled Great Tuskers of Africa which is on its fifth edition. He says that elephants are Africa’s gems and next year he will be going to Tanzania and Kenya to track them and carry on working on his second book.

David has exhibited every year since 1990 and says that every painting and every animal he has painted has a story. What is special about David’s paintings is that he tracked down the animals, took photographs of them for months sometimes before he started painting. He hopes to open people’s eyes and show them the beauty of nature and the beauty of the animals of Africa.

Mandy Walker, the co-curator and Darryl Gray, the curator and owner of the gallery in Parkhurst were happy to have artists of this magnitude showcase their work at their gallery.

David said his wife is incredibly talented and he is very proud of her. The exhibition will go on until 21 November.
