A hearty plate of love

SOPHIATOWN – Christ The King Anglican Church holds their year-end feeding ceremony for the needy.

Christ The King Anglican Church hosted their year-end feeding ceremony on 18 November for a large number of needy men and women.

The church has been aiding those in need for close to 20 years now and holds these feeding days on Wednesdays throughout the year.

Parish administrator Roner Ncamane said that they would generally feed about 75 men and about 10 women in a day.

“More men come in seeking food because they are the ones mainly standing at the sides of the roads all day looking for jobs, so they come in for some food to eat,” said Ncamane.

Ncamane explained that on the day, along with a hearty plate of food, those who were in attendance received recyclable bags so that they could take some food home as well. She also added that they are currently trying to get sponsors who would aid them with Tupperware for the needy to assist with them taking the meals home.

“It being the season of giving, it was very nice to give back to the community and help those who need your assistance,” said Ncamane.

In attendance to help serve the guests, was former president Kgalema Motlanthe’s wife Gugu Mtshali who has been a member of the congregation for quite some time.
