Woodside Sanctuary, a home for the intellectually disabled, were hosted by Lasallian Youth for their annual Christmas party on 27 December at De La Salle Holy Cross College in Victory Park.
Members from Lasallian Youth, pupils from De La Salle Holy Cross, unite themselves around a common spirit and mission through faith, community and service. They have hosted the Christmas party for Woodside Santuary for the past three years where they set up different stations for residents from the sanctuary in Cottesloe to participate in activities.
The stations include activities such as a colouring, reading, pasta beading, painting, bowling, balls and hula hoop games, and fishing. Each resident had their own friend from Lasallian Youth to play with.
Woodside Santuary general manager Kristen Williams said that functions of this nature add huge value when residents get the opportunity to go out and feel apart of society.
“The Christmas party creates a spirit of inclusion especially because of the residents’ disabilities and also creates awareness among the youth from De La Salle Holy Cross College,” said Williams.
Lasallian Youth coordinator Leanne Stonier said it was a great day that was enjoyed by all and the event is always an incredible experience for De La Salle Holy Cross College pupils, as they learn to appreciate and be thankful for the blessings in their lives.
“Our pupils are always encouraged to spend some time to give back to those in our community,” said Stonier.
Residents from Woodside Sanctuary were treated to party packs and the day ended with the singing of Christmas carols and action songs.
“Our residents were treated with respect, compassion and kindness by pupils from De La Salle Holy Cross College,” concluded Williams.
