UPDATE: Inquest into boy’s death

CLAREMONT - A boy who fell to death was playing when he slipped.

Police have opened an inquest following the death of Lee Jay Goliath (4).

The boy fell to his death at about 10am on 16 December.

The incident occurred at Maxwell Court flats in Claremont where he stayed with his family.

Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said, “We are investigating the case but it looks like the children were playing when the boy fell and died.”

WO de Bruyn said the boy fell from the fourth floor.

According to Bishop Dulton Adams, the family’s pastor and spokesperson, the boy and his sister (9) were on their way down from the seventh floor – where they stay, to go and play when the he slipped and fell to his death.

“The state and condition of the flats have been a concern to the community, and the staircase railings are missing,” said Adams.

“This is the fourth person who has fallen to their death at this block of flats, and two injured,” concluded Adams.
