Charity store looks forward to the new year
MELVILLE – Residents can donate any items that they no longer use and proceeds will go toward a charity.
The Junkie Charity Store in Melville is passionate about giving back to organisations that help people who are disadvantaged.
The festive season was a good opportunity for people and organisations to give back to the less-fortunate.
Founder of Junkie Charity Store Michelle de Villers said that December is normally busy at the store where people donate a number of items that are new or second-hand to be sold and re-used.
A portion of the proceeds raised from the sales of these items is donated to charities that the store supports.
“This past December was the quietest month I have ever had since I opened the charity store. I guess the economy isn’t so great or most people were away on holiday,” commented De Villiers.
Even though business wasn’t that great during the festive season, De Villiers, who supports 25 charities, said that she is never negative about the proceeds raised but rather continues to work hard in raising awareness for the store and the charities she works with.
This year the Junkie Charity Store welcomes residents to donate their unwanted goods and perhaps pledge the proceeds to a specific charity.
Some of the charities that De Villiers will be working with this year are: The Salvation Army, Princess Alice Adoption Home, and Melville Koppies Fund that supports artists in the performing arts.
“For everything residents need to know about the promotions, items and great deals, they can visit the Junkie Charity Store’s Facebook page. We also encourage people to offer their spare time to go where the need is, instead of offering their services only at the store,” said De Villiers.
