Police investigate their own officials

PARKVIEW – Parkview Police have launched an investigation following allegations of corruption by two of their own.

Parkview Police have launched full-scale investigations following allegations of bribery by two of their own officials.

Police communications officer Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha confirmed the victim reported the incident and could not reveal a detailed report as it would jeopardise the investigations.

He explained that Parkview Police do not take kindly to any form of corruption and condemned the incident in the strongest terms possible. “We will leave no stone unturned in the ensuing probe,” he said.

Two policemen from the station allegedly demanded a R200 bribe from a Zimbabwean national who did not have a passport at the time of the incident.

They allegedly locked her in the back of their police van and indicated that they would free her only when she paid the money. “Should investigations uncover any merits to the said allegations, those involved will face the full might of the law without fear, favour or prejudice,” he continued.

He further explained that police applauded the victim for reporting the incident as it helps them play their part in ensuring a corruption-free society.

“This courageous act will indeed help us in getting rid of the bad elements within our ranks,” he concluded.
