Three suspects were arrested by the Fairland police after being caught red handed jamming a vehicle.
Fairland Police Station spokesperson Moloko Kgatla said that while two constables were patrolling in the late afternoon on 14 April they noticed three suspicious males getting out of a vehicle after removing some belongings and getting back into another vehicle at the McDonalds in Blackheath.
“The officers requested that the driver of the vehicle stop the car but they refused, prompting the officers to use minimal force to stop the car,” Const Kgatla said.
He explained that when the officers opened the boot of the car they discovered laptops, car breaking implements, and remote jammers.
The suspects were arrested and charged with theft out of a motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen vehicle.
“One of the laptops that was discovered was handed back to its owner after the suspects were arrested on the scene and another laptop was given back to its owner in Linden after he was tracked down,” Const Kgatla added.
He explained that the suspects were wanted for various cases around Joburg that ranged from robbery to theft.
Const Kgatla said that car jamming was a problem in their area but said that they would catch the jammers one by one.
“Residents are once again warned to ensure that they have locked their vehicles by physically pulling on the handles. Also all valuables should be put away, preferably in the boot where the criminals can’t see them,” he said.
