Two police officers were shot after stopping a suspicious vehicle in the Mayfair area yesterday.
In the early hours of the morning on 25 April two Brixton police officers, Constable Gladys Maswanganyi and Constable Sipho Msibi, were doing patrols in the Mayfair area when a vehicle, driving at a high speed, came from the opposite direction.
The police officers stopped the vehicle to search it and found six people inside.
According to Brixton Police liaison officer Jeanette Backhoff, “The passenger next to the driver started shooting at the police officers and Const Maswanganyi was wounded in the shoulder.
Const Msibi returned fire but was wounded in the abdominal area. Both wounded police officers were rushed to Garden City Hospital.
Const Msibi passed away the same morning while Const Maswanganyi is in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.
One suspect was arrested.
