With love from, your secret plant admirer

BERARIO – Anna Lemmerer explains how delightful it is to wake up to a random kind gesture from a secret plant pal.

Anna Lemmerer has a secret plant pal she would love to thank.

A resident in Berario for close to 37 years – she emigrated from Austria with her now late husband and two children, Lemmerer says she has loved every minute of her life in South Africa.

In the last six years, someone has been leaving various plants outside of her gate and she does not know who it is.

To date, she has about 400 pot plants and her pavement is full of aloe trees. “I absolutely love to garden.”

The avid gardener believes that this might be the reason she has been the recipient of this lovely gesture.

The latest delivery was three beautiful thyme potted plants. “It’s wonderful to get this delivery,” she said.

Lemmerer added that it’s very surprising to her that she would get these plants from a total stranger.

“I think the stranger could be a woman,” she said.

Although she doesn’t mind that her secret plant pal wants to remain anonymous, she would like to show her gratitude and so she has left a note on her letterbox thanking the stranger for the special delivery.

She plants most of the gifts she receives depending on whether she has the plant already.

“I have not seen anyone else on my street receive gifts like this unless they too are also secretly surprised at times in silence,” said Lemmerer.

She recalled something that her sister once wrote for her that stuck with her through the years, “If you want to know me you should see my garden because in my garden you see my heart”.
