Dilapidated Linden corner soon revamped
LINDEN - A new building project in Linden hopes to revamp one of the suburb's "worst" corner.
The corner of 4th Avenue and 8th Street will soon return to the glory days of old, thanks to local architects and property developers.
Jonathan Gimpel, his wife Lorien and Matthew Obel have partnered in renovating this corner on one of Linden’s busiest streets. The architects and property developers specialise in urban renewal projects and this time they set their eye on the old commercial building and a block of apartments behind it.
“We live in the area and have seen Linden improve lately, but this was the worst corner in Linden,” Gimpel said.
Gimpel added that people slept at the dilapidated building and he has since bought it on auction, closed the area off.
“Residents are excited about the renovation. I have not had a complaint about it. I think people are happy that something is being done about the people who slept here,” he said.
The building, according to Gimpel, was built in 1950 and housed six shops. He said that the project will restore the building to its former old-world charm where six shops can once again operate and a wrap-around veranda will decorate the building.
“We want to get independent and local businesses to open here,” he said.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Gimpel is excited that the renovation will add to Linden’s growth and will help reestablish the street and family activity.
