Northcliff kidnapping investigation continues as private investigator outlines next steps

Private investigator Mike Bolhuis says the investigation remains active, with suspects being included or excluded as evidence is assessed.

The investigation into the kidnapping of Alex Van Heerden in Northcliff, remains ongoing, with private investigator Mike Bolhuis saying specialist teams are continuing to analyse information and determine who may be linked to the crime.

Bolhuis stated the investigation was currently a sensitive process, and that specific details would only be released once certain investigative steps had been completed. “We are busy with an intense, in-depth, inclusion/exclusion investigation. It means people are either included as suspects or excluded as not being involved or suspects.”

He said the family was still receiving support following the traumatic incident, while specialist units continued working on the case. Bolhuis said his specialist teams, including cybercrime and kidnapping specialists, were involved in the investigation, and that kidnapping cases required immediate action, as every minute could influence the outcome.

According to Bolhuis, investigations into kidnappings involve multiple stages, including examining events leading up to the crime, what happened during the victim’s captivity, and the period after the rescue. He added these stages are combined to help investigators build a clearer picture before moving forward with authorities.
Bolhuis highlighted the role of public co-operation in the case, saying information shared by communities can assist investigations. He said public awareness campaigns and crime alerts could place pressure on suspects and contribute to successful outcomes. Bolhuis warned, however, that kidnapping investigations must be handled carefully, because incorrect information could compromise operations.

Bolhuis urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to trusted authorities or investigators. He appealed to anyone with information relating to the kidnapping to come forward, saying all information would be treated confidentially. He said the investigation would continue until those responsible are identified and held accountable.
