Be alert this festive season

BRIXTON – As the festive season approaches Brixton police offer safety tips.

Community members are urged to be vigilant as the festive season draws nearer.

Spokesperson for Brixton Police Station, Jeanette Backhoff, said they have had lots of reported cases where people are negligent and become victims of crime. She said that there are various measures one could follow to ensure they do not fall prey to suspects out to cause harm.

Follow these safety tips:

  •  Keep your handbag safe and closed at all times
  • Never ask for help from strangers at ATMs, go inside the bank and ask for assistance from someone working at the bank
  • Don’t talk on your cellphone while you are walking in the street
  • Don’t walk with valuable items in the streets such as laptops or earphones
  • Don’t leave valuable items in your vehicle when you go shopping or go to restaurants
  • Don’t walk in quiet streets, try to use streets that are busy
  • Don’t walk alone during the night and use streets where there are street lights.

Backhoff concluded by saying that one should not be a victim of crime but rather take charge and be safe.
