Resell items to help others

EMMARENTIA – The OPC is a secondhand store which sells a variety of exciting items.

Lesley Plutsick’s interest in reselling items in order to raise funds for charities started early on in life. Her philosophy is, if you have not used something for six months, it should be given away or resold.

Plutsick said she initially started reselling items at markets such as the Emmerentia market and now sells at the Irish Club boot sale.

She recently opened her own charity store, The OPC, which is a secondhand store based in Emmerentia which also sells vintage clothes. A percentage of her proceeds are donated to charities she supports.

“I started off by collecting my own items that I would purchase from charity shops and retirement thrift shops. The reason behind giving back to charities was to raise funds and awareness for them. I currently support Hospice, Cradle of Hope and Gem,” said Plutsick.

“I chose to support Gem because I have family that live there. My mother and sister passed away from cancer, hence I support Hospice because they helped with their rehabilitation,” explained Plutsick.

The OPC sells quality women’s and men’s clothing, costume jewellery, vintage clothing and collectable items.

Plutsick added that in future, she would like to expand her brand into selling collectables, good vintage pieces and provide people with better quality clothes.

“The response from the community has been positive. I have received a number of compliments that the shop is beautiful and the [customers] like the items I sell. At the moment I would like to raise more exposure for my store. I’m still in the process of creating my own Facebook page.”
