New primary school for Emmarentia?

EMMARENTIA – The owner of a residential property has applied for rezoning at the City of Johannesburg in order to build a primary school. Read the updates here.

EMMARENTIA – The owner of a residential property in Tana Road, Emmarentia, has applied for the removal of restrictive title deed conditions in order for a primary school to be established.
A notice was put up by M and E Town Planning Solutions at the property in January about the application to the City of Johannesburg to remove the restrictive conditions and rezoning of the title deed. The notice stated that details about the application could be inspected during office hours at the Department of Development Planning.

Residents had until 18 January to object the application which, according to Mark Pengelly from M and E Planning Solutions, did indeed happen.

“There have been quite a few objections from the surrounding neighbours,” Pengelly said.

He said they are still attempting to meet with all the residents to discuss the project, but that a tribunal hearing would likely be held.According to the City’s development planning guidelines, a decision on an application may take as long as 12 months.

It said that if the application’s planning officer recommended an opposition to the application, and where interested parties have lodged objections, a tribunal hearing is scheduled and the applicant, objectors and council officials are given the opportunity to argue the case.

If there are still any objections to the tribunal’s decision, an appeal could be sent to the provincial authority.
