Charity begins with everyone

MELVILLE – Charity Begins With Me asks for the community's assistance in making a difference in the lives of children from impoverished homes.

MELVILLE – Charity Begins With Me is an organisation that provides meals for needy children in informal settlements.
The organisation was founded by Stephan Ferreira after he realised that he wanted to make the world a better place. After being diagnosed with leukemia four years ago he knew what he wanted to do. “The idea of death did not scare me, but I knew I wanted to leave behind something worth remembering before I officially kicked the bucket,” he said.

Ferreira explained that because the organisation was not a registered NGO, they did not work with money. So each month, they organise one or two projects where they collect various items they can use to make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most.
This month, the organisation’s project is to to make as many meals as they can, and deliver these to children in various townships and informal settlements, as well as to displaced people in the area.

“We will also have special treat days where we bake cupcakes, muffins and other goodies as well as hot meal days to deliver home cooked meals as well,” said Ferreira.

The group is looking for donations of:

  • Peanut butter
  • Jam (any)
  • Syrup
  • Vienna’s
  • Oros
  • Polystyrene cups
  • Lollipops (any)
  • Easy muffin mix
  • Fruity Loops or Asteroids (1kg packs available from Westpack).

You can follow the group on their Facebook page, Charity Begins With Me, where you can get updates on what the organisation is doing and how you can assist.
You can also SMS or WhatsApp to Stephan Ferreira on 072 593 3866.
