DSJ swims to a win
AUCKLAND PARK – Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg places first in annual A league swim gala.
AUCKLAND PARK – Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) finally came first in the annual A league swimming gala.
After years of being second best, the school achieved 577 points on 24 February.
Monument Primary School, St Catherine’s Primary School and Rand Park Primary School, along with DSJ swimmers, were prepared for anything, as the weather seemed against them.
DSJ’s swimming coordinator, Melanie Böbs said with rain and cold temperatures throughout the week it was not looking very promising that the gala would even take place.
With clouds looming all the swimmers were set to do their best strokes so that their school could come out on top.
Böbs said that as soon as the swimmers took their first plunge into the water their expressions showed just how cold the water was. “In the first few races, Monument was leading the pack in the icy temperatures,” said Böbs.
However, Monument could not hold onto to the lead and DSJ took first place after the backstroke event, giving them a clean sweep for the win.
The points were:
Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg – 577 points
Monument Primary School – 527 points
Rand Park Primary School – 507 points
St Catherine’s Primary School – 207 points.
