6 000 turn up for Christian concert in Linden

LINDEN – The annual Praise and Worship Gig sees some of South Africa's best Gospel artists come to Linden.

The field at Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys was full of people, singing and a festive atmosphere, as another Praise and Worship Gig was held.

The third annual Gig (God is Great / God is Groot) saw 6 000 people attend and participate in the vibey Christian music concert on 6 May.

Francois Botha, Jaden Visser, Leanne Perold, Michaela Rossouw and Johne Aucamp.

Concert-goers set up picnics and camping chairs on the grass as they enjoyed the live music and scrumptious food on sale.

The line-up included the best of Afrikaans Gospel music: Bouwer Bosch, Retief Burger and Joshua na die Reën, as well as Matthew Mole and #Imagine Band for the English listeners.

Annelize Rossouw, Niel Rossouw and Alta Bezuidenhout.

Before each performance, a short video clip was shown of the artist talking about why they believe in God, and encouraged the crowd in line with the Gig’s theme of Faith, Hope and Love.

“My favourite artist is Joshua na die Reën, and his best song is Dromers,” said concert-goer André Groenewald; while Archie Mabena, sitting with his family, said he did not understand much Afrikaans but the Afrikaans music was “awesome”.

Bouwer Bosch performs at the Praise and Worship Gig.

“I am from Zimbabwe so I don’t know Afrikaans well, but I love all the music here,” he said.

Emmarentia Germishuysen commented that the music was great, while the atmosphere was both “chilled” and “hyped” at the same time.

Organiser, Jacques Swart said the Gig was an inter-church event, with 25 different churches and organisations involved in hosting it under the auspices of the Gereformeerde Kerk Linden.

“Our main goal is to get the community together and spread the word,” he said, adding that the event was a huge success.
