The colour of happiness

ROOSEVELT PARK – The happiest 5km run comes to Roosevelt Park.

For a day, Roosevelt Park was the happiest place on the planet.

Roosevelt High School was host to the Color Run, also known as the happiest 5km run on the planet where runners get dusted in colour at every kilometre of the run.

Organisers want the run to act as a catalyst for participants to live an active, healthy life. It is also used as a means to raise funds for charities across South Africa.

This year, the Color Run revamped for their Superhero Tour to celebrate heroes throughout South Africa. Since superheroes are this year’s theme, runners received a limited edition Superhero Tour Participant Kit complete with a custom race T-shirt, temporary tattoos, a headband, powder pack and a R150 voucher for Takealot.com.

Those who were raising funds for a cause could dress up as superheroes to support the real heroes – charities.

The run took place on the morning of 10 September and thousands of runners from far and wide came dressed in shorts, T-shirts, tutus, ridiculous socks, headgear and sunglasses.

Many families entered the run with their toddlers and had their running shoes on to take on their first run, while also having the option to ride on the shoulders of their mothers and fathers.

Runners showed up mostly in white and by the end of the run, they were unrecognisable figures plastered in colour. Later, runners who still had fresh legs danced at the Finish Festival and had more colour thrown at them.
