Banding together to make Auckland Park a cleaner place
AUCKLAND PARK – Residents do their part in the mayor's broader city clean-up campaign.
A total of 75 residents took to the streets with Fidelity ADT to clean up and make the area safer.
The thinking behind the clean-up was that a clean neighbourhood is a safer neighbourhood.
The project was spearheaded by the Auckland Park Residents’ Association who wanted to support Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba’s broader clean-up campaign #AreSebetseng.
Residents used Piza e Vino just off Empire Road as a base camp where the community met up and collected their gloves and plastic bags.
From the base camp, numerous groups were formed and set off in different directions to pick up litter as well as trim trees and bushes in the area.
Once the community swept the streets of Auckland Park, Piza e Vino provided them with free coffee and pizza as their way of giving back to those keeping Auckland Park clean.
“The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone was so friendly and eager to work together for a joint cause,” Natasha Springfield, Fidelity ADT community development manager said.
The company pitched in to ensure the safety of all residents while they were busy with the clean-up.
Springfield concluded that the weather held up for the clean-up, in fact, it was a lovely day to be out and about.
“Everyone enjoyed the day doing their part to clean the city and make the mayor’s citywide clean-up campaign a great success.”
