Police investigate suspicious death at old age home

WESTDENE – Police are awaiting autopsy results to obtain a better picture of the victim's cause of death.

Sophiatown Police Station has confirmed that it has launched an inquest into the death of a person at Eufees Oord Old Age Home.

Spokesperson for Sophiatown Police Station, Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said, “The case where a woman who allegedly died of unnatural causes at the home is being investigated.”

The exact date of when the woman passed away is unknown at this stage but reports indicate that it could have been either late October or early November.

“A rumour circulated on social media about her being pushed to the ground, causing head trauma which allegedly lead to her death. We are are still waiting for the autopsy results to get a better picture of what transpired.

“The family wanted to have a private autopsy but for whatever reason, they did not get one so the victim’s body went to a state facility for the autopsy. We’re now waiting for the results.”
