Flakka WhatsApp messages unconfirmed

JOBURG – 'Up until we treat a flakka patient, we can't confirm the drug is here' – City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services.

While messages have been circulating on WhatsApp about the ‘zombie drug’ flakka hitting Johannesburg, authorities have not confirmed any of the reports making the rounds on social media.

The message reads, ‘This is how the new flakka drug is being distributed. Please make sure your children and all family members [are] aware’. Attached to the message were images of coloured pills of which some looked like sweets.

A video has been doing the rounds on social media as well, where a woman, allegedly from Eldorado Park, is caught on camera with unusual movements.

While the video has been circulated, it is unclear whether the woman in the video was indeed on flakka.

Northcliff Melville Times spoke to South African Police Service spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubela, who said he had no knowledge of any flakka cases in Johannesburg.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi, said he was aware of social media posts about flakka but said they have not dealt with any cases.

“I’ve checked with medical services and we have had no reports of flakka. Up until we treat a flakka patient, we can’t confirm the drug is here,” Mulaudzi explained.
