Curves Northcliff collects and donates 496kgs of food

NORTHCLIFF – A weight lifted through teamwork.

The women’s fitness club, Curves, was able to spur on the community and their members to collect and donate food to those who go without on a daily basis.

Curves recently announced that their 13th annual food drive was a massive success. Shona Bell, one of Curves Northcliff’s owners, explained how high she and her team set the bar for themselves, this year.

Bell said, “We aimed to raise 500kgs and just missed our target by 4kg.” This did not dampen the celebrations by the club as they still viewed their achievement as an outstanding and special effort.
Bell explained that they were able collect 496kgs of food by wavering their usual joining fee but requesting new members to donate two bags of non-perishable items.

Existing members were not left out of the process as they were encouraged to match or exceed the donations given by new members. New and current members were encouraged to alert people of the food drive and support all areas of the drive.

Once the food was collected, it was to be donated to Kindness like Confetti, SPCA Randburg and Soup Kitchen Linden. The donations will be taking place throughout the month May.

Besides the members assisting Curves, Impala Fruit and Vegetable (Northcliff), Paws and Whiskers (Northcliff), Wishing Wells Nursery School and Steve’s Spar in Blackheath all played crucial roles in making this a success. They donated, collected and delivered food throughout the collection stages.

Curves food drive doesn’t only happen at their Northcliff branch but across South Africa. In addition to the 496kgs collected by Northcliff, 3 100kgs of food was collected nationally.

Bell expressed why they care so much about their food drive, “The Food Drive is a vital programme that fits in perfectly with the Curves philosophy of caring holistically for women’s health.”

This is a view shared by every single club and member of Curves South Africa. Bell went on to state they look forward to many more years of giving back to the community through worthy charities.
