Roosevelt Park resident calls on the community to donate school clothes for less fortunate children

ROOSEVELT PARK – A local resident is asking community members to help him help those in need.

A resident is calling on community members to help him collect items for needy school children.

Larry O’Sullivan is asking residents to help him make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged youths from Polokong Children’s Village in Evaton, a township north of Sebokeng.

The children’s home, which accommodates, feeds, clothes and supports 50 children, recently experienced a fire which destroyed much of the few clothing and school items that belong to the children aged between 2 and 16.

According to O’Sullivan, “What we need the most is school clothing, such as socks, shirts, skirts, trousers and school shoes. We also desperately need school stationary such as books and pens.”

He said that these donations will help the children return to school and blend in with al the other youngsters they go to school with.

He also asked those who are able to help, to donate or sponsor bedding material, paint, heaters, kettles and other household appliances.

This isn’t the first time O’Sullivan is working with Polokong Children’s Village. He is the vice president of the Society of St Vincent De Paul and they have been working with the home in recent years.

He said, “Over the years we have, not only for Polokong Children’s Village but for other poor communities, collected and donated food, water, clothes, toys and books for those in need.”

He added that they engage in community projects like these in order to make a difference in the lives of those who feel discouraged by the misfortunes of life.

O’Sullivan is pleading with community members to help him and the Society of St Vincent De Paul.

He is willing to collect any donations and is opening up his home for people to drop off donations. If you would like to assist him in other forms please contact him for more details.
