Fairland CPF’s plan to joggers and cyclists safe

FAIRLAND – CPF is back to do their part to keep the community safe.

The local CPF looks to help keep those exercising safe during their daily walk, run or cycle.

With lockdown regulations in place, all activities of the Fairland Community Policing Forum (CPF) were suspended but too much of their relief, their duties were reinstated when the country moved to Level 3 of its lockdown. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect and urgent following an increase in crime across the country since then.
Fairland CPF’s spokesperson Mahmood Cassim said that the CPF’s Victim Support Unit and patrollers are happy to return to their safety and security services for the community while applying all social distancing rules and having a face mask on at all times.

The first project the CPF will focus on upon their return is their ‘Bobby On The Beat’ initiative. Cassim explained, “The idea is to showing greater visibility along popular exercise routes and close to coffee shops/restaurants where snatch-and-grabs are likely to occur.”
This comes after the CPF reported an increase in the number of criminal incidents faced by those running and cycling within the Fairland policing precinct. The CPF’s patrollers will be wearing high visibility jackets so they can be identified by the public and will be able to call or radio the relevant authorities with anything is to go wrong.

The CPF is still demarcating the parks and routes around the community that will feature under the initiative along with other vital details. “The undulating roads leading up Northcliff Hill as well as Market Street Park in Fairland have already been earmarked. Times of operation will vary, with Saturday and Sunday mornings between 8am and 10am being most suited.” Private security companies have been made aware of this initiative with one already deploying members in similar vein to ensure the safety of residents.
