Replacing your Pikitup bin

JOBURG – Bins that have been stolen or reported missing can only be replaced for free once every eight years.

The City of Johannesburg’s waste management entity Pikitup has called on the public to revert to emailing them to process bin replacements.
Pikitup has been experiencing challenges with the City’s call centre resulting in them not being able to process reference numbers for the replacements. The public has been advised to contact Pikitup’s Pinky Ferland via email at pinkyferland@pikitup.co.za to receive a much-needed reference number.

The process to obtain a Pikitup bin:

  • If your bin has been stolen, report it to your nearest police station where you will also be case number.
  • Send your full names, City of Johannesburg account number, address and case number (if stolen), via email to pinkyferland@pikitup.co.za to receive your reference number.
  • If payment is needed for a bin(s), visit your regional walk-in-centre with your reference number, a copy of your municipal bill and cash to the value of R385 plus VAT per bin.
  • Pikitup will then alert the depot that services your area and deliver a bin within a week, depending on stock availability.

Pikitup will only give a new bin for free to the following:

  • Those moving into a property that has no bin, a recently constructed property or a property where there wasn’t a bin upon your arrival
  • If your bin was stolen or if you have reported it as missing
  • If your bin is broken or damaged, provided that you return the old bin

Pikitup reminded the public that in cases where a bin was stolen or reported missing, a bin will only be replaced for free once every eight years, a policy which came into effect from 1 July 2017. Those looking add more bins to their properties can do so at the cost of R385 plus VAT per bin.

If you haven’t received a bin after a month, email Ronel Doria at ronelld@pikitup.co.za. Your full name, contact details, address, reference number and a copy of the receipt issued to when paying for the bin must be included in the email.
