Free Coursera access for UJ students and staff
AUCKLAND PARK – UJ gives staff and students the chance to upskill, reskill or retrain through partnership with worldwide online learning platform Coursera.
UJ students and staff given access to 3 000 free online courses after two professors secure 10 000 online learning licences.
The students and staff of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) will now be able to access 3 000 online courses per license on the worldwide online learning platform Coursera. Professors Abejide Ade-Ibijola (Department of Applied Information Systems, College of Business and Economics) and Charis Harley (Professor of 4IR in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment) were able to secure 10 000 Coursera licences for the university population.
“These courses will be presented by specialists in the fields from IVY League institutions and the top 200 universities in the world” read the statement released by UJ. Staff and students will also be allowed to access all this content for free.
This opportunity is especially important for students looking to brush up on their skills before entering the labour market, as well as staff members looking to stay current in their relevant field or further their learning. The university has stated that the licence will expire at the end of September 2020 and therefore encourage interested persons to take advantage. Both professors have also put together programmes containing Fourth Industrial Revolution-related courses on Coursera, spanning the different faculties at UJ, which will become available.
