The Linden CPF’s 2020 retrospective
LINDEN – The Linden CPF has shared the CPF's experience of 2020.
Debbie Hanekom of the Linden Community Police Forum has shared the CPF’s experience of 2020 and writes:
I really loved how the Linden community came together when we went into lockdown and Covid-19 became a reality. Before we even approached our community, we received numerous donations of masks, gloves, sanitiser and messages of support.
Our community opened their hearts with contributions to the NGOs that we partnered with to help feed those in desperate need after Covid affected so many people so unexpectedly.
To all the residents associations who pulled together, thank you.
Lockdown, social distancing and the far-reaching effects of the pandemic were the lowlight of 2020, especially the helplessness of not being able to hug someone who really needed it.
The hero we have chosen to highlight this year is Eben Barnard, who is always available at the drop of a hat and who serves our community with such love.
Let us not forget every single police and security member who did their duty to protect us, regardless of how scary and uncertain the task at hand was. All of us got to stay at home and stop the curve, while they had no choice but to brave the uncertain reality of the pandemic.
I hope that in 2021 our sense of community grows stronger. May this period of being stuck inside make us appreciate what and who is outside, next door and across the road even more. May we treasure it and foster increased community involvement and interaction for safer and cleaner suburbs.
All our fundraising this year had to come to a halt, but our expenses continued.
We have various monthly expenses, like our 24/7/365 victim support phones, various maintenance costs at the station that aren’t covered by the national budget, new signage, a coat of paint for the station.
We do wish that the community help support their CPF with financial donations. No amount is too small, and every little bit helps.
