High praise for crime stopping constable
BRIXTON – Common robberies of cell phones and other personal belongings on the rise.
Constable commended for going the extra mile after busting street robbers.
Brixton Police Station Commander Colonel Mkhacani Maluleke has called for a round of applause for the station’s Constable Khuliso Radzilani in his relentless efforts to assist people in the community.
The constable recently single-handedly arrested two common robbery suspects after they had robbed a child with a toy gun. Maluleke expressed, “Constable Radzilani is a great asset to the station. He is very committed and a proud police service member, a member that will not think twice to assist a member of the community. This was a job well done.”
According to the station’s spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff, Radzilani arrested the two suspects while on his environmental scan along High Street when he saw a woman and her son running and crying towards him on 19 February.
“Constable Radzilani was informed by the mother that two males tried to rob her son with a firearm pointed at him. The mother and son were requested to get into the vehicle to see if they can find the suspects.”
In his civilian clothing, Radzilani drove back to the scene and on their arrival, the son pointed out the two suspects. Backhoff added, “The constable saw the two suspects sitting on the pavement and he blocked them with his unmarked vehicle. He got out of the car and pointed his firearm at them and instructed them to lay on the ground.”
The suspects were searched and found with a toy firearm inside a blue bag which lead to their arrests with a case of robbery with a firearm being opened.”

The station is thrilled with the work done by Constable Radzilani but is also warning the community of increased common robberies in the area.
Backhoff said that people are being robbed of their cell phones and other personal belongings, especially in and around Auckland Park, Brixton, Crosby, Melville, Mayfair West and Vrededorp.
She added, “This happens right throughout the day. Residents in the Brixton Policing Precinct and visitors to Melville are requested to play their role in keeping their cell phones, laptops and other personal items safe.”
