Dignity packs for those affected by abuse
SOPHIATOWN – Police thank the two foundations for standing with women and girls affected by violence and abuse.
Foundations join forces as they donate dignity packs to help girls and women in need.
The Menzi Ngubane Foundation in association with BrightSpark SA Foundation recently donated dignity packs consisting of sanitary and hygiene products for girls and women to Sophiatown Police Station’s Victim Empowerment Unit. According to the two foundations, the donation is aimed at ensuring that victims of abuse, rape and other societal ailments receive the care they need and strengthen their relationship with the police to help deal with such cases.
Representing the Ngubane family was Menzi’s daughter, Siya, who is the ambassador of the foundation. She highlighted that she’s happy that a foundation laid by her father is bearing fruits, and that her responsibility is to carry the torch forward in keeping his memory alive. “This is a huge responsibility that requires partners like government and the private sector to come on board and support our initiatives.”

Spokesperson for the station Captain TJ de Bruyn welcomed the guests and shared the station’s happiness and joy as they received the packs donated by the foundations. He said, “As the Victim Empowerment Unit this donation came at the right time when our women and children really require these essentials. We thank the Menzi Ngubane Foundation and BrightSpark SA Foundation for choosing us as one of their beneficiaries, and look forward to a great relationship that will make a difference in our community.”
Welcome Witbooi of BrightSpark SA Foundation said the dignity packs will be given to women who go to the police station to seek help; to remind them of how special and beautiful they are despite the bruises and emotional trauma they’re experiencing.
He added, “We are happy that BrightSpark SA Foundation has committed to working with us, we have seen their work as attested by the Boy Mentorship Programme they’re working on with us, as well as the acting and life skills training they have been providing to the youth”.
