Harvey’s Beacon of Light Foundation in need of blankets

NORTHCLIFF – The Northcliif-based organisation is seeking donations to assist Paws Rehoming.

Harvey’s Beacon of Light Foundation is heading a dog blanket or food drive for Paws Rehoming and they would appreciate your donation of these items.

The foundation’s co-founder, Roxy Athanasopoulos, explained they chose Paws Rehoming as its founder, Claudine Matthews, is a one-woman legend who does phenomenal work in supporting families and furry friends in six different townships within the city. “The work she does is truly amazing and without her, these animals would have no help.”

According to Athanasopoulos, Matthews does everything on her own and her organisation is in urgent need of help and support. “Animals are starving and with the worst of winter still to come, we need blankets. I’m asking my amazing community, Harvey’s heroes, to rally together with us and help collect goods to feed and keep these animals warm.”

The drive just recently started and they still have a way to go with the collection goals so any support from the community will go a long way. For the Northcliff-based organisation, dogs have a special place in their hearts and there are thousands across the country who are in need. As Athanasopoulos said, they have no voice and as such, the community needs to be their voice to be in aid of them in any way.

Harvey’s Beacon of Light Foundation works all year long, even if it is in a small way, “We also release educational tools to help the public with their pets,” said Athanasopoulos.

This year, they have two initiatives they are proud of. “We started off the year super positively, joining forces with the incredible organisation, The Dogs Trust, who help animals from Diepsloot township. Together we raised enough money for them to do sterilisations on almost 100 dogs from Diepsloot township,” explained Athanasopoulos.
She added that in April, with the support from Puppify Online and Simparica South Africa, 7 000 boxes, which equates to R2 million worth of tick and flea tablets were distributed to animal foundations across the country. “I feel so honoured and blessed to have the wonderful support and love of my community.”
