Grandparents celebrated at De La Salle Holy Cross College

VICTORY PARK – The school recognised the importance of grandparents, through a small, yet powerful gesture.


More often than not when one reflects on the powerful role their grandparents had in their lives they do so with a smile of appreciation.

So, it comes as no surprise that De La Salle Holy Cross College recently chose to celebrate their learners’ grandparents. With the use of their Facebook page, the school shared an assortment of family pictures that comprised of children with their beloved grandparents.

Each picture, though unique in its setting, was not short of a smile and reflected, quite easily, the love shared within each family. Neil Berndsen, headmaster of the junior school, said their grandparents have always been valued and special members of the school community, “I would like to wish our grandparents a belated and blessed grandparents day which we acknowledge on the Liturgical calendar on July 25.”

He noted how it is their wisdom, gentle care and unwavering love that is a wonderful example to the children. According to Berndsen, this, along with the influence grandparents have on these young lives cannot be underestimated. “Thank you for the important role you have in our community and in the hearts of children.”

The celebration of this day is a yearly one and grades RR to matric take part in its festivities, this year they all sent pictures. The headmaster concluded to say what made this year even more special was taking into consideration that many of the children, due to Covid-19 restrictions, had not been able to see their grandparents, while others recently lost a grandparent.
