Police to partner with the youth
BRIXTON – The Youth Crime Prevention Desk will be on a volunteer basis and include people between the ages of 15 and 27.
Police look to establish a strong and committed youth crime desk.
Brixton police are calling youths in the area that want to take a stand toward crime, make a difference where they live and work with safety and security stakeholders. The station is looking to create their own Youth Crime Prevention Desk which will work closely with the police, Community Police Forum and other role players committed to safety and security.
The station’s spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff said, “Our main focus in relation to the Youth Crime Prevention Desk is to reduce crime against the youth and for them not to become perpetrators of crime. The youth needs to be heard and this is an excellent platform for them to get involved in.”
Furthermore, the project will enable the youth to act as good citizens in their communities and by empowering them in communication and conflict resolutions and interpersonal skills.
The Youth Crime Prevention Desk will be on a volunteer basis and include people between the ages of 15 and 27. These young people will participate actively in identifying causes of violence in the youth and to create strategies on the prevention of crime in the community.
Backhoff added, “They will also participate in crime prevention activities and crime awareness campaigns that we host.”
If you are interested in making a difference in your community, become part of the Brixton Police Crime Prevention Youth Desk by applying with the station. For details on the application and more information, contact the station on 011 248 5500 or email them on gp.brixton.sec@saps.gov.za
