Help the Curiosity Shop
BLACKHEATH – The non-profit organisation shares their successes and challenges as well as how you can assist them.
We all know that the festive season is a time synonymous with giving and a time of reflection on the love we show to others whether they be family or your neighbour.
For a select few willing to give of themselves and their time, these acts of compassion are not just a seasonal thing but a way of daily life. Charity organisations are the perfect example of this daily act of giving. The White Elephant charity organisation, which trades as The Curiosity Shop, is one such organisation.
Found at 225 Beyers Naudé Drive, the charity shop receives preloved goods which get sorted and priced then placed on the shelves for avid thrift store buyers to purchase. The shop, where possible, also assists other charity organisations, and they do this by selling items on their behalf and the percentage of the items is shared between the the organisation and another charity.
A highlight the charity shop experienced in 2021 was being able to remain open and not shut down to Covid-19. Another, was the pleasure of making many people happy with the awesome stock they received along with the supportive customers that have continued to support them through tough times.
With highlights also came challenges, and a big one was people in the community becoming unemployed which, in turn, affected business. The shop is not a pawn shop, which people tend to get confused about, as they do not give money to people for the donation/goods they bring in.
The organisation wishes the community at large a wonderful festive season filled with health, prosperity and love. Its wish for 2022 is that more people make their way to the store to see what treasures they have as they have something for everyone.
