Tons of festive groceries for families of learners

Casa Do Sol School in Linden received tons of food donations from Pick n Pay Cresta and the retailer’s Feed the Nation Foundation.

School’s principal Ansonette Kraucamp said the grocery donation was a tremendous help. The school assists 54 families of their learners that are in need of food.

Kraucamp said during the year they get food parcels from Woolworths in Cresta on Tuesdays and Woolworths Appleby on Sunday. “The food parcels are for the same kids from the 54 families that we distribute to,” she said.

She said it was very difficult to get donations and be able to help the families but the latest donation will help families during the festive season. “From our side, we want to thank Pick n Pay from the bottom of our heart.”

She added that the school strives earn extra income to keep the school running and give the best education to each learner. “Without community help, it is not easy. We do everything like recycling paper we collect to get the money.”

The school caters for learners with special educational needs between the ages of six and 21. “Casa do Sol is a place or home in the sun and that is what we strive to give each child so they can share and have a home to come to every day.”

Pick n Pay Cresta customer services manager Patricia Moloi said the principal told them that the school relies on donations and that most people who initially promised to help were pulling out. “It’s been some years since we started working with the school,” she said.
