Suspected stolen boats recovered in Fontainebleau

FONTAINEBLEAU – A total of 18 boats and 19 trailers were discovered to have tampered vehicle identification numbers when the 60-year-old man was arrested on Rabie Street.

A Fontainebleau business owner has been arrested and charged with fraud after boats and their trailers worth an estimated R350 000 were found to have tampered with Vin numbers.

“Police received information about a second-hand dealer that is selling boats and trailers with vehicle identification numbers that are tampered with,” explained Gauteng Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, as he met Randburg Sun on scene.

“Members of Provincial Vehicle Crime Investigation unit, Tracker Connect and provincial head office reservists operationalised the information and pounced into the business premises… At the premises, police also found stencils that are suspected to be used for installing new Vins.”

The lieutenant colonel said the owner was charged with fraud, contravention of second-hand goods and contravention of the Road Traffic Act. He added more charges may be added.

“He is expected to appear in Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, February 15,” Masondo concluded.
