UJ students deliver memorandum against mandatory vaccination

AUCKLAND PARK – The students have handed in their memorandum.

The University of Johannesburg students are today, March 03, protesting at the University of Johannesburg‘s Entrance 1 gate, following the mandatory vaccination that the institution has imposed on them.

Speaking on behalf of the students, a fellow student known only as Bianca said, “We are protesting against the vaccine mandate. We stand for freedom of choice, freedom of medical choices and freedom of the anatomy of our bodies…we are fighting for the choice to receive it or not to and that this remains a choice for the individual and not for anyone to impose it on us.

“We also do not agree with coercion. Coercion is not consent and it’s a person’s individual right to receive a vaccination if they so choose and for those who do not, we want to have the same rights as those who choose.”

In a statement, the institution said the vaccination policy stated that staff, postdoctoral research fellows, and students would need to provide UJ with their vaccination status, first vaccination completed or fully vaccinated, before gaining access to any campus or facility. Photo: Neo Phashe

The senior director of student affairs at UJ, Godfrey Helani, received and signed the memorandum.

The students reiterated that their voices shall be heard and they are at the institution to fight for their rights.

Students could be heard chanting, “No to mandatory vaccination…it cannot be right that we are forced to take what we don’t want in our body”.
