Quick criminals break into Ford Ranger
LINDEN – Criminals capable of breaking into your car before you get your fast food at a restaurant.
Linden police urged the public to be cautious whenever parking at restaurants whether they are sitting in or getting takeaways.
According to the station’s spokesperson Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, a case was recently opened where a person had their laptop stolen from their vehicle.
Sibiya said, “The complainant parked their Ford Ranger at the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant and went inside to give their order. On his return to the vehicle, he discovered that the driver’s door lock was damaged and the door unlocked, with his laptop bag, laptop and documents stolen.”
The driver asked the people around if they had seen what had happened to his car but then received a phone call from an unknown person telling him they had his bag. He went back into the restaurant, as instructed, and found four men who gave him his bag but the laptop was gone.
Sibiya cautioned the public against leaving their valuables in their cars, regardless of how quick they thought they would be. “Even in the short period of time of getting takeaways, criminals can break into your car, smash your windows or force the doors open to steal important valuables that are lying on the seat.”
The police plead with the public to not leave any valuables in plain sight and rather lock them in the boot and avoid parking where there is no security.
