A warning to stop open false cases
Brixton Police Station is warning the community, especially students, to stop open committing perjury as this could lead to imprisonment.
The Brixton police extend a stern warning to the public to avoid at all costs the opening of false cases as this can lead to imprisonment.
According to the station’s spokesperson, Jeanette Backhoff, it became apparent that it is students who have been at the forefront of opening these false cases, ‘aAs they missed exams or have lost cellphones and laptops due to negligence’.
“The fear of the repercussions from the parents is what students mostly fear and don’t even consider the consequences of imprisonment.”
Backhoff explained the station has taken a zero-tolerance approach toward these false claims which leads to arrest for perjury, for defeating the ends of justice. From the beginning of the year to recent weeks, successful arrests for false cases have been made.
She said that statements are re-examined and related parties are engaged to gain more clarity on cases – thorough investigation is done to root out the false cases.
“The plea from Brixton [police] to the community it serves is to continue to uphold the law. False cases, which is perjury, not only waste state resources but also ruin innocent parties’ lives.
The justice system time is being misused whereas high-risk cases could be receiving attention. One false case, one perjury, has a ripple impact on the entire justice systems and in the community.”
Backhoff concluded the matter of perjury is not somethings the station and its investigators take lightly. She sternly reiterated to warn against opening of false cases, anyone found guilty will be brought to justice to the full extent of the justice system.
“Penalties for this crime can result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years or a hefty fine or probation, therefore it is advised not to make a false statement that hinders any judicial proceedings since this is a very serious offence. “
