Footloose at Northcliff High School
The school's annual major production is everything the young thespians wanted it to be, exceeding expectations of those in attendance.
After its opening night exceeded expectation, it’s safe to say that no time spent off stage can stop Northcliff High School from showcasing the talents found at the school.

Many in our community braved the cold weather on May 22 to enjoy a barnyard set-up of the school’s Footloose The Musical. From wardrobe to set design, there was so much the audience visually enjoyed.

Adding to the visual appeal of this musical, was the level of acting showcased. Audience member Tessa Thomson shared, “You have to pinch yourself to remember that these are not full-time performers.”

Thompson added that it was a joy to watch the children perform, sing and show the crowd what they have to offer.

Nadine Pace said one of her favourite parts of the show was the awesome harmonies of the young actors who portrayed Rusty, Urleen and Wendy. She also enjoyed the romantic moonlight duet between characters Ren McCormack and Ariel Moore, not forgetting the entertaining performance of Owen Pace, who played Willard Hewitt.

The whole production gave Khanyi Nkosi goosebumps, especially the singing. “It was electrifying,” she said. “I didn’t expect to enjoy myself this much but I did and I found myself screaming and beaming with pride.”

A mother to one of the production’s lead characters, Sophie Hasell, said had waited for this night for three years and it went beyond exceeding their expectations.

Fellow mother to a lead character, Lynn Meyers, shared that the school’s major productions are normally the highlight of the school year, “It exposes hidden talents the boys and girls didn’t know they had. I have seen stars being born from major productions.”

Attendee Mafalda de Ponte echoed Meyers’ sentiments.

The musical ran for three more days after its opening, with its final show on May 28.
