Proof of an address is not a requirement to register as a voter – IEC

This is your last chance to register to vote in person with IEC officials, but online registrations are open until the date of the election is announced.

The weekend of February 3, will be the final in-person Electoral Commission (IEC) voter registration weekend ahead of the elections.

This is to assist new voters to register to vote at a voting station near them. It is also an opportunity for existing voters to check their details and make any amendments if needed. The previous registration weekend saw over 560 000 new voters register for the first time, a trend the IEC hopes will continue in February.

The IEC says, “When registering, voters will need their ID document and to provide their address or a description of where they live to allow the Electoral Commission to place them on the correct segment of the voters’ roll. However, proof of an address is not a requirement to register as a voter.”

Voting stations will be open on both February 3 and 4 from 08:00 to 17:00.

If unable to attend in person, voters can register online quickly and easily until the date of the election is announced by the IEC.
